Construction and Demolition

Construction and demolition (C&D) materials consist of the debris generated during the construction, renovation, and demolition of buildings, roads, and bridges. C&D materials often contain bulky, heavy materials, such as concrete, wood, metals, glass, and salvaged building components. Reducing and recycling C&D materials conserves landfill space, reduces the environmental impact of producing new materials, creates jobs, and can reduce overall building project expenses through avoided purchase/disposal costs.

  • ALVA Waste owns a transfer station at Exit 7 off of I-91. Contact Matt Priestley for information about what he accepts and  for pricing.
  • Construction and demolition materials are handled differently at each of the transfer stations. Contact your local facility for instructions.

Reuse, Recycle, or Dispose of C&D:

Reuse: If you have items that might be of value, please contact someone listed here to see if they might be interested.

Recycling: C&D waste can be recycled. Ask your contractor or waste hauler to use a recycler rather than a landfill. The Agency of Natural Resources maintains a web site that lists many other avenues for recycling, visit https://dec.vermont.gov/waste-management/solid/materials-mgmt/construction-waste

An addition to the construction-debris-recycling options in the area is Hammond Grinding & Recycling Inc., (603) 523-4353.

Disposal: Contact your transfer station – each one has specific fees and requirements for C&D disposal.
